About Rostrum Club 3
Rostrum Club 3 has met every Friday for more than 3800 meetings. Members are drawn from all walks of life and are all male, valuing the freedom of association.
Fellowship within the club fosters a rare camaraderie that nurtures new members. At each meeting, Rostrum 3 members enjoy sparkling repartee and intellectual stimulation. Members gain experience in formal meeting procedure in a fun environment and learn how to control a meeting under all circumstances.
Speeches are assigned in advance by our program director, giving the speaker time to research and deliver creative speeches that inform and entertain.
Spontaneity, laughter and much goodwill prevail, and beyond the entertainment, valuable skills are learned.
Many current members have enjoyed Rostrum 3 for more than 30 years, and continue to attend for the camaraderie, and to help others.
Meetings are held at the State Library, near the corner of North Terrace and Kintore Ave, upstairs in Bray Room 1, starting at 1:00 pm and ending at 2:00 pm.
Before the meeting, some members catch up over lunch in the Library Cafe on the ground floor.
Learning by doing
Every Rostrum 3 meeting takes the form of a typical business meeting, with minutes, formal motions and speeches. Each member has an opportunity to gain confidence and experience not only in public speaking but also in the important roles of Secretary, Chairman, etc.
Most importantly, each meeting concludes with constructive feedback and helpful hints from an experienced speaker.
